Japan Frames
About
Photographs taken on the ground, prices checked on a date we print, and no pages about places we have not been to.
Japan Frames is a small photographic guide to Japan. Every photograph on the site was taken by us, on the date shown under it. We do not licence stock, and we do not generate images of places.
That constraint decides what the site covers. There is no page about Kyoto here, because we have not photographed Kyoto properly yet. There is a page about an old merchant street in Saitama that most guides ignore, because we have.
What we try to get right
- Prices carry the month they were checked. Fares, tickets and room rates in Japan move. A number without a date is worth very little, so we print both and re-check them.
- The practical thing first. Which hour, which station exit, which direction the light comes from. The history is interesting; the logistics are what ruin a day.
- We say when something is not worth it. Several pages here recommend skipping the paid viewpoint, the famous park or the rail pass.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you book through one, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. They are marked, and they never change what we recommend. Several pages recommend against buying the thing the box is selling.
Corrections
Prices change, buildings close, trains are rerouted. If something here is wrong, we would rather know — corrections are made on the page, with the date changed.
